Valley E-Newsletter #31     September 19/05

This e-Newsletter only reaches some 35% of our membership. It’s costly to send out frequent flyers. Please share this e-Newsletter with your neighbours. The more communication we have, the better.

3rd Annual Golf  Tournament, Saturday, Sept 24, Shelter Valley Pines Golf Course. This 4 person, 9 hole scramble costs $40.00 per person.   If you want to play or help out, call Margaret @  344.7304. She does need some volunteer help with registration and catering. There is room for several more foursomes! Registration begins at 8:30am.

STORM, a coalition to Save The Oak Ridges Moraine, has approached us with a project which may be of interest to members who are concerned with the environmental health of the moraine. This project information is here.

The Poker Run ride in August netted VV $739.87. CD sales at the Shelter Valley Folk Festival earned us $200.00, and Aengus Finnan will be sending some $75.00 for note cards.

DUMP INFO: Specific information on who did what, and when, in the Turk Road dump site is proving a little bit elusive. The BOD’s researchers have made a lot of progress on the issue that Council wish would go away. Do you have, or do you know of someone who does have, factual or anecdotal evidence of the dump’s history? Do you recall the Co-op fire and its aftermath? The dump questions and the related water safety issues are looking like our strong points. Please, even the smallest detail will help to fill in the puzzle. Contact Carol or Chuck.

As for Council? Your BOD is preparing yet another list of questions to ask the Mayor. One of the questions will be “Why haven’t you answered our previous questions?”.

November Fundraising:  At Vernonville Hall on either November 5 or 12. This evening of entertainment and dancing features the Shelter Valley Boys. More info soon.

The autumn issue of  ON NATURE,  published by Ontario Nature, has a one page report on SVA and Shelter Valley. “No peace in the valley”,  page11. Carol, Chuck, and Bob have copies.

And Bob Garthson has lots of  ORGANIC vegetables for sale. Call him at 349.3807. He is generously donating half the proceeds to Valley Voices!
