SAVE SHELTER VALLEY -
SEND A LETTER BEFORE MAY 19TH
CRUCIAL TIME SENSITIVE ACTION:
When this all started, WE INSISTED IN OUR LETTERS to council that Shelter Valley Road not be used as the main haul route - COUNCIL LISTENED.
WE HAVE PROVEN LETTERS WORK. IF MANY WRITE, COUNCIL LISTENS
THESE POINTS MUST BE MADE KNOWN TO COUNCIL
BEFORE THEY REACH A DECISION:
1: A PRIVATE MEETING(s?) has been held between council and Shelter Valley Aggregates. We believe that all negotiations with SVA should be made public. The A/H ratepayers wonder what is A/H discussing behind closed doors?
2: Our lawyer provided a copy of a legal opinion prepared for Wellington County that shows that the municpality loses all control over pit operations once
zoning is approved. A/H must insist SVA provide “worst case scenario” Environmental, hydrology, noise and other studies
before Council will
consider any action.
3: There is a recent OMB ruling in favour of a municipality in Bruce County - a municipality that stood by it's ratepayers and refused zoning to permit a quarry. So, it is possible to stand united, fight and win!!
4: Council approved residential severances near the proposed pit, surrounding it with homes and in essence turning it into a residential area. Council must stand behind decisions made, protect these people, their homes and property values, water quality and quality of life.
THE DATE IS CRUCIAL. GET YOUR LETTER IN BEFORE THE
MAY 19
PLANNING MEETING, OR THEY MAY MAKE A DECISION
WITHOUT CONSIDERING THESE FACTS.
REMEMBER ...
gravel trucks travelling local roads 6 days a week, from 7am to 6pm.
Mayor Finley says this is ok if it's for the municipality's use
higher property taxes to cover road repair as a result of these trucks.
Money received by other municipalities DOES NOT cover these costs
Loss of property values as a result of being located near a LARGE, LOUD aggregate extraction operation. Financial futures lost.
Loss of quality of life due to constant noise, dust, air pollution etc.
An issue that council has refused to address.
Possible wide spread residential well and water quality problems,
due to the inability to stop SVA from digging below the water table
Possible DDT and other contamination due to the location of old dump sites. Where are these sites? What else is in there? Who knows??
