UPDATE
On October 26, 2005, having held numerous private meetings with SVA, Council announced they had reached an agreement with them.
On December 13, 2005, Council held a public information session to discuss this agreement. Although both Council and their lawyer stated that they had not made their decision yet, it was obvious to most who were in attendance that indeed, they had.
On December 21, 2005, Council voted on and approved the financial and development agreements with SVA. The by-law to change the land use to industrial extractive is on the agenda for the January 25 planning meeting, although we will not be surprised if they vote on it earlier. We will keep you posted.
VV was well aware that Council's approval was very likely and has been working with this in mind. Very little of VV's future strategies will change as a result of Council's vote. On the positive side, we now know exactly where Council stands on this issue and can stop using our valuable time and effort providing Council with information in the hopes of assisting them, and can turn our efforts to the other important issues at hand – continuing to research and build a strong case against this pit to take to the OMB.
We are requesting all Valley Voices members attend
