VALLEY NEWS BULLETIN January 24/06
THERE IS A CRITICAL SVA EVENT AT THE TOWN HALL IN GRAFTON, Jan.25. 8:00pm to 11:00 pm.
THE BACKGROUND
Jan.22, at the Tea/SVA up- date, we were told SVA would have a delegation at 9:00 pm on Jan.25.
VV, Leigh Thomson, Cindy, and others, planned to request delegation status. Leigh has concerns for Council re the Safe Water Act. (Her letter was sent to VV's e-mail members, the media, and Council.)
Wednesday's agenda? It appears Council will vote on the rezoning but we don't know if that involves a beforehand in camera meeting with SVA, or with A/H's lawyer, or what. No clue.
How do you stick an agenda to a teflon Council? Council has been known to play fast and loose with an agenda. Cindy found this out. So did Chuck.
Our lawyer asks: Does the process Council followed in changing and publicizing the rezoning follow Provincial procedures?
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
After the Dec. 13 meeting, a Councillor was heard saying words to the effect that, 'whew, we got off there. Not too many complainers.'
Well, let's show them!
Arrive by 8:00, in humongous numbers. You will be the Fidget Factor.
Make Council feel uneasy. Stare at them.
Wear a black arm band; dress in black.
Carry a protest sign.
Stay for the vote. Be prepared to participate in a bit of civil disorder.
The media will be there. We will look silly if the media outnumber the membership. The media are our greatest allies. Let's use them!
It's so simple.
Be there to show the BoD that you want them to continue to work on your behalf and to continue the fight for the valley.
It's our valley but we all have to work to keep it ours.
Please attend the Jan.25 meeting. If you need a ride, call any Director. We'll get you there
